New City Fellowship and Team Recycle
Team Recycle and Rocky the Recycling Raccoon visited New City Fellowship Church summer camp on June 23 to educate students on the importance of recycling and recycling RIGHT! The students received educational materials on curbside and convenience center recycling as well as a Recycle Right sticker to put on their recycling bins at home.

Team Recycle and Rocky the Recycling Raccoon educated citizens at this year's Sweet Diversity for Districts 7, 8 & 9. This event took place at the Chattanooga Zoo on April 29. Team Recycle registered citizens for biweekly recycling, helped them determine their collection dates and distributed education materials on how to recycle RIGHT!

Rocky Visits Bug-A-Paluza 2010
The 2010 Bug-A-Paluza brought together thousands of Volkswagen enthusiasts! Rocky and Team Recycle visited Bug-A-Paluza on Apr. 18. With all the food vendors it was a great place for to help visitors to Camp Jordan learn about recycling right! The weekend festival features hundreds of Volkswagen vehicles both old and new, contests, entertainment and all things VW.
Party for the Planet 2010
Rocky and Team Recycle joined hundred of kids at the Chattanooga Zoo for the annual Party for the Planet on Apr. 17. While visiting friends at the zoo, Rocky met lots of kids, and even parents, anxious to have a photo taken with Rocky and talk to Team Recycle about recycling right in Chattanooga! Along with lots of other organizations from across Chattanooga, Team Recycle helped educate visitors about all the great things they can do to reduce waste and be good to the planet on Earth Day!
Eco Expo 2010
Team Recycle spent Apr. 13 at the annual Eco Expo, joining with dozens of organizations and businesses offering ways to go green! At the Recycle Right booth, volunteers along with Rocky, helped citizens signup for curbside pickup, find their closest drop-off center and learn about recycling right! The EcoExpo is Chattanooga’s biggest environmentally-friendly expo showcasing practical solutions to learn green and live green. Hosted by Brewer Broadcasting, the expo featured ways minimize environmental impact and make your home and lifestyle ecologically friendly.
Rocky Helps Promote Earth Dayz at Rock City
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle joined Rock City's Rocky to promote Earth Dayz on Apr. 11 and to help guests at Rock City learn about the importance of recycling right! Earth Dayz takes place all though the month of April at Rock City, where Rocky and friends are helping to educate visitors about wildlife, conservation and recycling.
Rocky and Team Recycle at the Chattanooga Green Festival
Rocky and Team Recycle joined local businesses and organizations to help citizens learn about recycling and environmentally friendly products available locally. On Apr. 10 the Chattanooga Green Festival highlighted sustainability measures for homeowners and businesses alike with educational displays, vendors and special events including live music and a fun zone for kids!

Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle were at Bloodanooga March 30, Chattanooga’s largest one-day blood and marrow drive, spreading the word about the importance of recycling and recycling RIGHT! Team Recycle answered questions from Chattanooga citizens about recycling in Chattanooga and encouraged event attendees to sign up for biweekly curbside recycling.
Calvin Donaldson Elementary School’s Recycling KICKOFF with Rocky and Team Recycle
Recycle Right helped kick off Calvin Donaldson Elementary School’s recycle program Feb. 18 at a schoolwide assembly. Prior to the launch, each student at the school designed their own “RECYCLE” banner. The winner of the design contest received a Recycle Right goody bag from Rocky at the assembly—the goody bag was filled with a Recycle Right T-shirt, stuffed animal “Rocky” raccoon, recycled pencils, recycling coloring pages, stickers of Rocky, stickers for their bins at home and informational materials on how to recycle RIGHT (at home and at convenience centers). The winner’s design was enlarged onto a banner, which will be hung in the cafeteria above the school’s new recycle center. Team Recycle delivered a PowerPoint presentation to the school on the importance of recycling and how to recycle RIGHT. The school received Recycle Right stickers and educational rack cards for every student, as well as coloring pages featuring Rocky recycling at home.
Lakeside Academy launches Recycle Right program!
Recycle Right has been working with Lakeside Academy science club students to launch a schoolwide recycling program. On Wednesday, Nov. 18 Team Recycle and Rocky the Recycling Raccoon helped kick off the program at an assembly for 3-5 graders. Team Recycle gave a presentation about the importance of recycling in Chattanooga and how to recycle RIGHT. Following the presentation, each of the science club students received a Recycle Right T-shirt from Rocky and a certificate of achievement from the school. The science club prepared recycling signs for the assembly; these signs were placed around the school following the assembly to encourage recycling in school and at home.

Team Recycle and Rocky stopped by Orange Grove’s recycle center to spread the word about the importance of recycling in Chattanooga during Orange Grove’s free shred day, November 18. Documents shredded securely at Orange Grove are recycled.

Rocky and Team Recycle joined the "Camp Out to Stamp Out Family Homelessness" to spread the word about the importance of recycling and recycling RIGHT! Proceeds support Interfaith Homeless Network's mission to end family homelessness one family at a time. Overnight campers designed, brought and slept in their own cardboard box homes - which were recycled after the event!

Tennessee Valley Pride, Inc. is a nonprofit organization designed to celebrate diversity in the Chattanooga area. Their goal is to combine the wonderful resources of the GLBT people of our area and reach out to the community with dignity and respect. Rocky and Team Recycle had a blast at GoFest Oct. 3 at the Chattanooga Zoo! This is the third year in a row we've educated citizens about the importance of recycling in Chattanooga at this event - it gets better and better every year!! GoFest encourages young people with disabilities and their families to explore the available services, resources and opportunities that would enable individuals to realize their maximum potential in setting and achieving lifetime goals and personal success in every area of life.

Lakeside Academy is getting ready to make a big announcement and some awesome changes to help out the environment!! To give you a hint, it has to do with recycling! Team Recycle Works with Girl Scouts on Environmental Badge!
Team Recycle and Rocky worked with Chattanooga Girl Scouts June 25 to help them earn their environmental badges. Team Recycle spent the evening educating the scouts on the importance of recycling and how to recycle RIGHT. All scouts received a JOIN: RECYCLE RIGHT sticker to put on their bins at home as well as a take-home information sheet for their families to get started in Chattanooga’s recycling program. They were educated on how easy it is to set up recycling at their homes and take care of the environment. Team Recycle facilitated a discussion on ways to encourage others to recycle and held a contest for recycle bin designs – winners received a Recycle Right: JOIN T-shirt. At the end of the evening, the scouts took a pledge to recycle as much as possible and encourage others to do the same.

The children divided into groups and worked with Team Recycle to design their own recycle bins. Rocky and Team Recycle speak to children at Aleph Bet
When Rocky and Team Recycle visited Aleph Bet on June 17, they spoke to the children about how recycling helps the environment and how they can recycle at home with their families. Children received coloring pages featuring Rocky recycling at home as well as Rocky the Recycling Raccoon stickers. Each child also received a take-home sheet to give their parents that encouraged them to use convenience centers AND curbside recycling in Chattanoga, and also educated them about how to recycle RIGHT.
Rocky welcomes recyclers to Chattanooga!
When the Tennessee Municipal League came to Chattanooga, Rocky and Team Recycle helped get recycling to their event at the Chattanooga Zoo. Rocky greeted visitors to our wonderful city and Team Recycle encouraged the visitors to recycle their waste at the event.

Chattanooga Mayor Announces Biweekly Recycling!!
At a press conference held June 2, 2009 at the John F. Germ Recycling Center at Orange Grove Center, Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield announced several improvements to the City’s Public Works department, including the increase in curbside recycling collection from monthly to biweekly.

Blood Assurance, the nonprofit regional blood center, hosted Chattanooga’s largest one-day blood drive on March 31. Rocky had a wonderful time encouraging citizens of Chattanooga to recycle!

Team Recycle and Rocky the Recycling Raccoon spoke to Daisy troops at St. Jude about the importance of recycling and recycling the right way. For their "Use Resources Wisely" petal badge (Feb. 2009), these Daisies learned all about keeping recyclable waste out of the landfill.
Mayor Littlefield Kicks off Brainerd Center Grand Opening
Mayor Ron Littlefield and Orange Grove Center announced on Jan. 14, 2009 the grand opening of the Brainerd area convenience center for recycling, located at 5955 Brainerd Road. The daily traffic count at this location is 37,600 automobiles per day. “In 2008, convenience centers received more than 98,323 visits and collected 1,887 tons of clean recyclable materials,” said Mayor Littlefield. “This equates to an average of 38 pounds of recyclables per visit. The new center on Brainerd Road will undoubtedly raise the amount of recyclable tonnage kept out of the landfill this year and for years to come. This center is a welcome addition to this area of Chattanooga and will provide nearby residents with a convenient location to recycle their items.”
Cub Scouts Recycle Right!
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle visited the Cub Scouts of Pack 3012 on America Recycles Day as they worked to educate citizens of Chattanooga on battery,cell phone and ink cartridge recycling. They held up signs at DuPont Elementary and encouraged drivers on Hixson Pike to recycle; the scouts collected recyclable items at the school from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each of the scouts received a Recycle Right T-shirt and a Recycle Right sticker. Keep up the good work, Pack 3012!
Environmental Awareness at BCA
Rocky and Team Recycle had the honor of attending Belvoir Christian Academy's Winter "Green" Wonderland event on November 8. We were so pleased to see that even the decorations were made from recyclable materials! This school is definitely making a difference.
American Lung Association's Asthma Walk: Rocky and Team Recycle
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle visited the American Lung Association's Asthma Walk Oct. 23 to educate citizens on the importance of recycling and recycling right. They answered questions from citizens about recycling and encouraged them to recycle the right way. Rocky made many new friends and was honored to help kick off the walk.

Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle had a booth with Orange Grove Recycle Center at the Smart Energy Odyssey at Miller Plaza! They educated citizens on the importance of recycling and recycling right. They answered questions from citizens about recycling and encouraged them to recycle the right way, utilizing curbside pick-up and convenience centers. Curbside pickup calendars, a list convenience center locations and information about recycling the right way in Chattanooga were distributed.
Team Recycle and Rocky Help BCA Recycle RIGHT!
Team Recycle went with Rocky to Belvoir Christian Academy to deliver presentations on the importance of recycling, how it impacts the environment and our city, how to recycle right and how to help their parents recycle more at home. Each student was given a Recycle Right sticker, a Recycle Right coloring page and an information sheet with a curbside pickup calendar and a list of convenience center locations/hours to take home. We had a great time meeting all the students!

Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle visited the sixth annual First Day Festival at the Chattanooga Zoo to educate citizens on the importance of recycling and recycling right. Rocky made lots of new friends at this wonderful event, and Team Recycle answered questions about recycling in Chattanooga while distributing Recycle Right stickers and information.
Rocky and Team Recycle visit Keep it Green campers at the Creative Discovery Museum!
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle visited the Creative Discovery Museum August 1 to meet with the “Keep it Green” summer camp kids. To celebrate their week’s work on environmental awareness and recycling, Rocky and Team Recycle gave each camper a curbside collection calendar, a list of locations and hours for convenience centers, a Recycle Right sticker and Rocky coloring page. Team Recycle and Rocky gave presentations to these groups of campers on the importance of recycling and recycling right. Rocky was also the star judge of a recycle bin design contest—all the Keep it Green campers designed their own unique recycle bins and Rocky chose the top three winners, giving them a special award. Rocky even participated in one group’s “reduce, reuse, recycle” dance!

Tyner Middle Academy students commit to Recycle Right!
Students at Tyner Middle Academy are making a commitment to Recycle Right in their school and encourage others to do the same. Tyner Middle Academy is implementing a school-wide recycling program with a large education component. They presented this program to the public on Monday, November 19. On Friday, October 19, Rocky the Recycling Raccoon greeted trick-or-treaters at Boo in the Zoo! Children of all ages waited in line to meet Rocky and to get some candy. It was wonderful to hear so many people let us know that they recycle at home. Keep up the good work, Chattanooga!
Rocky at Go!Fest
On Saturday, October 13, Rocky joined his fellow Chattanoogans at Warner Park Zoo and Frost Stadium for Go!Fest. Rocky was greeted with warm hugs and high-fives as he participated in the fun activities. Additionally, Rocky took the stage with Samantha Gilley, an 18-year-old blind rider and athlete who has survived nine cancer treatments. When she was 6 weeks old doctors gave her a 10 percent chance of reaching her first birthday, but she celebrated her 18th birthday this year. She and Rocky took the stage to encourage others to recycle. Together they placed a plastic bottle in a blue recycle bin and the audience cheered. Samantha and Rocky wanted to let everyone know that even those with disabilities care about the environment and can do their part to Recycle Right.
Rocky at the Autumn Children’s Festival
Thousands of families in Chattanooga enjoyed the beautiful weather at the Autumn Children’s Festival to benefit the Ronald McDonald House--October 6 and 7. Rocky and volunteers from Team Recycle took part in the activities and educated citizens about the importance of recycling and Recycling Right! Rocky was even asked to sign a few autographs.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for the 2007 CultureFest at Coolidge Park, September 29! Chattanoogans enjoyed all the fun activities while being able to recycle their waste at this year’s CultureFest. As a special treat, Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle came out to meet fellow Chattanoogans and encourage them to use the Recycle Right bins at the CultureFest. Team Recycle volunteers also answered questions from citizens about recycling in Chattanooga and how to Recycle Right. Countless Chattanoogans knew Rocky by name and asked him to play football, fly a kite, play the drums, catch a frisbee and dance with them as they enjoyed this beautiful Saturday in Coolidge Park. A special THANKS! to everyone who helped make this event—and especially recycling at this event—possible! We were very pleased to see Chattanoogans Recycle Right at 2007’s CultureFest and keep recyclable waste out of the landfill.
Grand Opening of Patten Convenience Center
The newest Recycling Convenience Center (Recycling Drop-Off Center) officially opened September 14 at 3202 Kelly’s Ferry Road in Lookout Valley. The addition of the John A. Patten Recycling Convenience Center is the fourth such center now open in the city of Chattanooga.

Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle volunteers joined United Way of Greater Chattanooga at their community kickoff carnival on Thursday, August 23. The circus-themed carnival was a large event open to the public and featured clowns, gymnasts, unicyclists, face-painting, crafts and a petting zoo. Rocky joined in the fun to encourage recycling in Chattanooga and greet members of the community. He marched in the parade and made lots of new friends. Grand opening of Access Road convenience center -- June 26, 2007
Mayor Ron Littlefield, the City of Chattanooga, the Department of Public Works, Orange Grove Center, and Rocky the Recycling Raccoon celebrated at the new permanent location for the convenience center at Access Road and DuPont Parkway. The cement for the center was donated by Ready-Mix USA.

Earth Day Party for the Planet!
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle along with the new education coordinator from Orange Grove visited The Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22) for the “Party for the Planet.” Chattanoogans lined up to meet Rocky and learn more about recycling in Chattanooga! Families of all sizes wanted their photo taken with Rocky and took home information cards about curbside pickup, convenience centers and what is/is not recyclable. Miniature stuffed animal versions of Rocky were given to children along with coloring pages and Recycle Right stickers. Although the Zoo was quite crowded on Earth Day, one couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone wearing a Recycle Right sticker or holding a mini-Rocky Raccoon or information page. Team Recycle answered questions from visitors to the Zoo about recycling in Chattanooga and had photo examples of recyclable items to show Chattanoogans all the various items they can keep out of the landfill by recycling.
Earth Week at Rock Point Books with kids!
For Earth Week, Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle hosted a celebration at Rock Point Books for Earth Day. There was a special reading of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax and the children participated in a coloring ring to color pictures of Rocky and some recyclables. Free mini-Rocky the Recycling Raccoon plushes were given away and each child got to meet the real, live Rocky and have his or her picture made with Chattanooga’s most avid recycler.

Rocky greets Chattanoogans headed to work!
It was a noisy morning if you entered the city by Veteran’s Bridge! Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle volunteers were out during rush-hour traffic on the corner of Georgia Avenue and 4th Street in Chattanooga raising awareness about Recycle Right. As Rocky and his friends waved to countless commuters entering the city, his presence received happy honks, return waves and smiles. Some citizens working at a nearby construction site even left their duties behind to have their picture taken with Rocky.
